Family hearsay indicates that Janet fearing for the fate of her husband on the field of battle went from Brussels to the field of Waterloo with baby John on her back searching for her feared dead husband, but he came through the battle unscathed.

At the time of her death, she was described as Widower of Thomas Lawless, Gentleman.
