He was a Rubber & Tea Planter in Ceylon until 1914 when he returned to the UK to take part in the war.
Medical Papers indicate that he was examined for appointment to the Royal Flying Corp, while in Egypt, in July 1916.
He died in North Ormesby Hospital, Middlesborough from Bronchial Pneumonia following burns received when his plane crashed and caught fire after engine failure.

He went to Ireland in approximately March 1916 and stayed at Moor Park camp near Kilworth.
He subsequently went to Egypt in May 1916.
War Office Notes indicate that he was most likely involved in two crashes, the first of which he was injured after his plane went into a spinning nose dive, sustaining cuts on face and injuries to the knee at Wyton Aerodrome, Huntingdon on 1/7/1917. No blame was attributed to the pilot. Also the plane was listed as an RAF R.E.8 No A.4194, a slow two seater reconnaissance plane.
At the time of the second accident, he was serving with 1/4 Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Aeroplane Pilot) No.1 Fighting School., Turnberry Died of injuries Tuesday 13 August 1918 aged 25, he was injured whilst flying gB1179 BRISTOL 96 F.2B FIGHTER 2347 B1179(G) and sustained burns and subsequently died from shock and septic pneumonia.
