General Notes:
Direct ancestor for Rose Johns. Herbert Alexander was born in London in C1856, the youngest child of Rebecca Louisa and George Johns. He was the ward of Sir ? Neville and ran away to sea at the age of 13. He eventually arrived in Australia where he met and married Helen Arnott Christie in 1879. They had seven children as follows - Ethel b 1881 (studied to be a teacher, met a farmer and had 2 sons) Edith Emilie b 1883 d 1963 (became a nurse, eventually a matron possibly at Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital Melbourne?) Herbert Arthur b 1885 married Elizabeth Brown (Lola Mackelcan b 24/11/1914 m N. Rogers and had one daughter Meredith C1943; Norman Mackelcan b 4/6/1919 m. B Armstrong 25/8/1947 and had a son Michael 30/8/1952 and me, Rosemary Elizabeth 9/10/1958)There is one more generation after this. George Arnott b 1887 d 1888 Ernest 5/3/1889 d 1987 (had Marion, an actress, Douglas WWII veteran, Elaine and Wilga) Helen Arnott b 1891 (had 1 son and Constance) Constance Neville b 1898 (an opera singer who trained in Melbourne, toured extensively and lived in the United States) Herbert Alexander was an engineer and worked on the railways and invented quite a few things for work (according to my aunt, a family trait apparently) Kath, if there is anything further that you would like to know I am happy to share. This is pretty much all that I know about Herbert Alexander's line. I do have notes made probably by Herbert Arthur or Lola (it is unclear who wrote them) detailing the family fable and interesting information about many of the characters. 154
